Two Weeks in Vietnam on $40 a Day: A Complete Budget Guide

Vietnam rewards travelers who like movement: overnight trains, early market breakfasts, motorbike day trips, and long walks through cities that seem to change every hour.

The budget works because the essentials stay affordable. Dorm beds, guesthouses, street food, buses, and low-cost domestic flights make it possible to move from Hanoi to Hoi An without turning every choice into a spreadsheet.

Start in Hanoi, add Ha Long Bay if the weather cooperates, ride south through Hue, linger in Hoi An, and finish with a short Ho Chi Minh City stop. The route is classic because it works.

The biggest savings come from eating locally, booking transport a few days ahead, and choosing paid activities carefully. Spend on the experiences that are hard to repeat: a good food tour, the Hai Van Pass, and at least one slow morning with Vietnamese coffee.
